After more than two months since the completion of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) 2016, finally Bangladesh national cricketers got to play a warm-up match in some kind of competitive atmosphere for the first time on Thursday, splitting themselves into two sides at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
It was evident from Thursday’s match that the batsmen were struggling to hit the ball hard and keep the pace of the scoreboard. And it wasn’t anything to be surprised of, as it is quite normal for cricketers when they play competitive cricket after a long time.
So Mahmudullah Riyad, who had been an exception on Thursday, making a brilliant 62 to help the Red team win by three wickets, at the press conference after the match was not much worried about batsmen’s misery in scoring runs. Rather the all-rounder believes by the passage of time batsmen will be able to get back into their natural form.
Mahmudullah said, “We haven’t been within cricket for a long time. So we all were looking forward to this match. Our performance wasn’t up to the mark, but I think it was of course a satisfactory start. Hopefully in the remaining two matches, all of us will fare much better.”
The former Tigers skipper also talked about his own batting which won everyone’s heart, “There was nothing special in it. I just tried to keep batting in my natural process. We were in need of a partnership and Saikat rendered me good support. Mushfiqur and Nasir of the Green team also batted nicely.”
