Bangladesh national cricket team is now passing their best time on the international level. In last one and a half years, Tigers have found many success. First they qualified for the quarterfinals of ICC World Cup 2015, and then also inflicted series defeats on the likes of Pakistan, India and South Africa. For such success in recent time, Bangladesh’s former skipper Mohammad Ashraful has credited the national head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe.
“Of course Hathurusinghe deserves much of the credit. He has been the main reason behind Bangladesh’s coming of age. It is because of him that batsmen nowadays show more positive and aggressive approach towards the game. Hathurusinghe has given batsmen the independence to play their natutal game. And this is the reason why Bangladesh are now doing so well,” said Ashraful.
Ashraful also had words of praise for the current cricketers who are working hard day in and day out to become better on the field. “Bangladesh have always been full of talented cricketers. But the fundamental difference between the current cricketers and those of the bygone years is in the mentality. In present time cricketers are very serious about the game. They are provided with many facilities, and they also make them count by working really hard.”
According to Ashraful, qualifying for the World Cup quarterfinal last year so far is Bangladesh’s greatest success in the international arena. But Ashraful also knows very well that there is still room for improvement. He believes to play in the final of next World Cup should be Bangladesh’s main target now, and for that BCB must take some necessary steps.
“We will have to play the next World Cup in England. It’s never easy to get accustomed to the conditions there in England. So our national team must get a couple of opportunities of touring England. Besides we should also try to send our age level teams to England on a regular basis. Last year we played in the quarterfinals, and next time our aim should be the semifinals, and of possible, then also in the final.”
