On Thursday evening, England’s ODI squad was scheduled to be briefed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) security team about the safety situation on their scheduled tour of Bangladesh in October.
Through a recent update from their official account on the social networking platform twitter, ECB said, “We can confirm that @englandcricket’s tour of Bangladesh will continue as planned. A brief statement to follow shortly.”
In the mean time, a report on The Telegraph adds that “anything remotely on the lines of the July 1 attack by five gunmen on a cafĂ© in Dhaka – will lead to a cancellation”. That is of course a reference to the grizzly attacks on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan that claimed the lives of 20 civillians and two policemen, which cast serious security fears on England’s visit to play two Tests and three ODIs.
It has also been learnt through the news report that England’s one-day warm-up game, which has been scheduled for Fatullah, could be transferred to the stadium in the Mirpur suburb of Dhaka, where the international games will be staged. That would reduce the journey times from the team hotel to the ground and the risk involved in travelling through densely built-up areas.

Following the meeting, the ECB has confirmed that the England tour of Bangladesh will go ahead as planned. However, It is understood that England’s players will be given a no-consequences option to skip the tour if they, or their families, are uncomfortable with their involvement.
